Sustainable Neighbourhood Group

West Wallsend District Sustainable Neighbourhood Group (WWDSNG) is a group of residents and friends of West Wallsend, Holmesville, Seahampton, Barnsley, Killingworth and O’Donneltown who have joined forces to create a community focused action group. We are a not-for-profit, non-political group who just want to see that the area under Sugarloaf is protected and preserved for future generations. We welcome and invite all members of the community to join us.

Our aim is to cooperatively enhance and protect the facilities and assets of the area by working together with other local groups, council, state and federal governments. Our Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Plan (SNAP) outlines a variety of local community-led projects we will undertake to achieve our vision.

So far we have

  • established a local Landcare Group
  • established a Community Garden in the disused Holmesville Tennis Courts
  • renovated the old Holmesville Tennis Club hall to offer it for meetings and gatherings.
  • carried out a “Dob In A Dumper” initiative to raise awareness of illegal dumping in and around our district.
  • been involved in local Clean Up Australia days.
  • run a number of very successful Spring fairs at the Holmesville Community gardens
  • established the inaugural “Old Waste New Art” competition, which took out the 2016 Lake Macquarie Australia Day award for Community Event of the Year

We always welcome new members and would love to hear from you and become involved in protecting this rapidly changing and growing historic area.
